i Just eat a lotta soups cause i drink almost nothing it takes me around 20-30 minutes to drink a 150ml can of coke, but with a 2,5L pot of soup it takes 15 minutes, 20min max. if i'm not hungry
I actually ended up in the ER recently for pretty extreme dehydration. I retrospect my body was screaming at me to get more water and electrolytes in me but I'm so used to not noticing my body's signals that by the time I made it to the ER, my blood pressure had actually started to drop concerningly low. Now one of my new years resolutions is drinking at least a liter of water a day. I probably should be drinking more than that, but it's a start.
An alternative option for those of us without a pre-programmed screech: your pee is very light or clear, you’re doing well, keep going. If it’s dark, you need to drink more water.
getting an 80oz water bottle that when filled is (way) heavier than a human baby, and then having people tell you that is far too large and unpractical, was very helpful for me developing the habit of taking it everywhere because i did not want to admit i wasted my money- which inadvertently made me not waste my money! it never leaves my side anymore ♥️
side note, get a water bottle bag for anything over like 40oz or so, it makes it so much easier to lug around and also prevents you from breaking it by holding it just by the handle. hides the stickers but it does mean you can use patches!
I just have a goal to drink two full cups of water a day, and it's pretty easy to remember how much I've drunken all day- although sometimes I don't drink water till 3 then drink like 5 cups of it the rest of the day-
My way of hydration involves having a water bottle within reach. When I see, bump into it, or see something that reminds me to drink, it’s ready. Picked up the habit from growing up in a desert. Also it’s great when I’m thirsty in the middle of the night and don’t want to get up!
I struggle to know when I need water as well and my biggest sign of dehydration is when I start craving ice. I just want to eat a whole batch of it. Ice craving is also associated with iron deficiency but I don't have it and it goes away once I'm hydrated. I also start craving fresh foods like carrots, lettuce, cucumbers and stuff like that. My body makes me crave anything that contains water but not water itself lmfao. It took me 24 years to figure out what those cravings meant…
your screech is awesome! i drink hot tea for hydration too. water on its own feels weird & heavy to me most the time. even when i see that i need more water it is hard to drink it. tea has been such a sweet thing in my life & definitely a deep interest
Probably nobody will read this, but I haven't seen those in the comments yet and those tips helped me a ton. Some people when they are craving sweets actually are craving water. So whenever I want something sweet I first drink a glass of water or two and usually the sweets craving will fade. I used to go through two packages of gummy bears a day, now I finish one package in a week, if I even open it at all. To find out whether I'm thirsty when I remember to check in, I usually think of swimming or showering. If even the thought makes me never want to get out and stay in the water forever, I'm dehydrated. Also, when breathing feels heavy or exhausting and my breath is getting shorter, I usually need water.
Before I found a water filter brand that made water actually taste good to me, I used to drink apple juice, btw. Getting liquids into your body is so much more important than what type it is, especially when you're struggling with it.
I’m audhd or whatever ppl call it and I always and mean always have my water bottle with me. My adhd and anti depression meds make my mouth feel like the Sahara dessert. I’m dyslexic and English is not my first language so I don’t know if I spelled everything right.
I got those squeeze things that add flavor and electrolytes to water and basically makes it gatorade and I've somehow conditioned myself to consider it a 'treat' which has greatly improved my water intake
I hate having to eat and drink MULTIPLE times a day. Who invented this? I like to eat but I hate to make it and I‘d love to drink more plain wager but even the sweetest coke next to my bed can’t keep me hydrated cause I still forget it’s there. I recently discovered that fun colored big cups with straws (even better when the REALLY fit in cars cause I literally have to buckle up mine to prevent it from tipping over) make it easier for me to reach out and take a sip. Every lid (except for the one handed ones) prevents me from just taking a sip cause it means more work for me and my head. Good to know that cause it applies to almost everything in my daily life. The more steps it takes the more likely it is that I won’t use it.
I use a hydration tracker app called Plant Nanny because I can't drink water to keep myself alive, but the second my digital plant starts getting sad and dying, I'm chugging
I love games that help to remind me to hydrate. Playing Two Point Hospital and the tannoy going: Admin is adviced to stay hydrated! has me checking my mug to see if I need to fill it up again
that "backwards scream" is done using whistle register, which is a different way of using the vocal chords than what we normally do. a lot of people csn activate whistle register while inhaling instead of exhaling, hence it being "backwards". whistle register is what singers like mariah carey and ariana grande use to hit their extreme high notes, as it's easier to hit much higher pitches with it.
i’ve found that being able to fidget with my water bottle is the best thing to keep me hydrated, and it’s the same thing my siblings also do subconsciously. like chewing on a straw or feeling a texture on the bottle will always keep my water close to me. so i just end up drinking a lot of water without realizing. it also helps that i live in an area with good tasting tap water tho.

I'm Autistic but my problem is drinking too much water and having to worry about kidney failure. I'm addicted to the stuff.

Lately I have been trying to drink sparkling water whenever I crave soda
I got those squeeze things that add flavor and electrolytes to water and basically makes it gatorade and I've somehow conditioned myself to consider it a 'treat' which has greatly improved my water intake
You are the first person besides myself that I heard do that noise except mine is a lot more disruptive and loud
Kaelynn, thank you for reminding me that I haven't had water yet today lol.

I make that noise when I get excited.

wait its common for autistic people to not drink, or rather feel the urge to drink?

Keep being you~!! <3

I know that I need to drink because I'll want to eat gummies. Like, the craving for gummies disappears the instant I drink something
THATS WHAT I DO I CANT MAKE BIRD SOUNDS AND THEN I DRINK MY TEA
Tea is actually dehydrating
